Jammu and Kashmir: Moderate intensity earthquake hits

Srinagar: A 4.6 earthquake on the Richter scale hit Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday morning as reported by a disaster management department official. No damage to life or property was reported.

The moderate intensity quake was felt at 5.15 a.m. and the epicentre was located 199 km north of Kargil town in the Ladakh region, he said.

In 2005, a high intensity 7.6 earthquake had hit the region, killing upto 40,000 people and damaging property.
