Search operations continue after shootout in Sopore, Internet services suspended

Srinagar: Search operations continued today after a brief exchange of gunfire which took place between militants and armed forces late last night in Nowpora area of Tujjar, Sopore.

Reports said a joint team of army’s 22 RR, SOG and CRPF laid a siege around Nowpora area of Tujjer late last night following “specific” inputs about the presence of militants.

Reports stated that soon after the cordon was laid, the militants hiding in the area opened fire upon the forces triggering off a brief gunfight.

SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal said that some gunshots were heard during the cordon in the area. He said that the operation is going on to trace out the militants.

Meanwhile, Internet services have been suspended and all educational institutions have been closed as a precautionary measure.
