Srinagar: Following a call for shutdown by Resistance leaders, the valley remained shut on Friday against the killing of a civilian during a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Qamarwari Thursday.

All commercial establishments, shops and educational institutions are closed in capital city Srinagar while public transport, except private vehicles, is off the roads.

Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for shutdown and protests today against the killing of Saleem Malik during a CASO in Noorbagh area of Qamarwari yesterday morning.

Reports of shutdown have also been received from other district headquarters of the valley.

Expressing profound grief over the killing of a civilian during a cordon and search operation in Srinagar, National Conference on Thursday demanded a time bound probe into the matter.

Expressing solidarity with the family of Saleem Malik, National Conference senior leader and MLA Iddgah Mubarak Gul extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.

“It’s really unfortunate and condemnable that how civilians are being targeted with no sense of remorse by security forces during such operations. It has in fact become a routine now,” said Gul.

“I demand a thorough time bound investigation into the killing of Saleem so that culprit is identified and booked,” he said.

Earlier, senior PDP leader Altaf Bukhari termed the civilian killing as ‘cold blooded murder’.

He demanded an impartial probe at the highest level so that the culprits of this brutal killing are booked and brought to justice.
