In Budgam, no candidate, no opponent in three municipalities: Report

Srinagar: During the second phase of the Municipal polls in Jammu and Kashmir, in the three municipalities of Budgam district, no polls were witnessed, reported the Kashmir Reader.  

According to the report, there was either no candidate or no opponent in any of the three municipalities including Chrar-e-Shareef, Magam and Beerwah which consist of 39 wards, 13 wards each. In Chrar e Shareef nine candidates won uncontested and other two wards have no candidate. In Magam six wards have no candidate whereas the candidates of other seven wards won unopposed. In Beerwah only one candidate has filed nomination papers for ULB polls who won uncontested and other 12 remaining wards have no candidate.

Meanwhile, on call of the Joint Resistance Leadership, a complete shutdown is being observed in the poll bound areas. All shops and other business establishments are closed in poll-bound areas of Srinagar and other parts of the Valley while public transport is off the roads.

Meanwhile, till 10:30 less than one perecnt voting had taken place in Srinagar. In Anantnag, it was 0.6 percent. In Bandipora, it was 14.2 percent, Baramulla recorded 3.0 percent.

Till noon, 22 percent voting took place in Sumbal area. Over 1700 people have cast their votes till noon in the area.
