Modi refers to Hindu Goddess Kali as Durga, gets called out on Twitter

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi Wednesday extended his greetings to the nation on the occasion of Durga Ashtami with a picture of himself on Twitter along with the message, “May Maa Durga Eliminate All Evil”.

However, the picture sparked a lot of controversy as Twitterati stated that it was in fact, a picture of Goddess Kali. Some also pointed out that Modi had actually shared pictures from his 2015 visit to Dakshineshwar Temple near Kolkata.

The post garnered different reactions. Some criticized him for not being able to distinguish between the two idols, while others pointed out that both the goddesses represented power and, hence, were the same.

Those who defended Modi were slammed by others who pointed out that Ram and Krishna are two avatars of the same god and asked whether it was okay to celebrate Janmashtami on Ramnavami.
