Srinagar: No Friday prayers were allowed at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar for the second consecutive Friday.
Restrictions were placed in parts of the city including the Downtown area to prevent protests against the militant and the civilian killings at Fateh Kadal. The Joint Resistance Leadership had called for peaceful protests after Friday prayers against the ‘repression’ of the state.
In a tweet, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Chairman of the Hurriyat (M) said:
2nd consecutive Juma &15th of the year when Friday prayers barred at #JamaMasjid.Strict curfew imposed, people made hostages in their own homes in #ShahreKhas. No peaceful expression of protest against atrocities &injustices allowed,No law in the land except the law of #StateMight pic.twitter.com/sipMJdjbDf
