Kashmir capital Srinagar witnesses season’s first snowfall

Srinagar: The first snowfall was witnessed in Srinagar following a continuous downpour since yesterday, PTI reported.

The snowfall first began with the higher reaches of the region on Thursday, and decreased the temperature forthwith.

On Friday, all weather stations across Kashmir witnessed a drop of around 10 degrees Celsius from the normal day temperatures for this time of the year.

Meanwhile, due to bad weather, flight operations were temporarily suspended at Srinagar airport today.

“Landing/take-off [of flights] temporarily suspended at Srinagar  airport due to bad weather/snowfall,” said the Information department on Twitter.

It said the flights are lined up at the tarmac, waiting for the weather to improve.

“Flights lined up on tarmac, waiting for the weather to improve,” read the tweet.

In another tweet, it said the runway has been closed till 3 PM due to snowfall and poor visibility.

Kashmir valley has been receiving rains and intermittent snowfall since Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, a spokesman of MeT department said that the weather is likely to improve from tomorrow.
