Never known a politically appointed Governor going against the wishes of GoI, says Omar

Srinagar: After Governor Satya Pal Malik said that if he would have listened to New Delhi, Peoples’ Conference Chief Sajad one’s government would have taken shape in state, NC Vice President Omar Abdullah has said that ‘they have never heard of a politically appointed Governor going against the wishes of the centre.’

Ina tweet Omar said he doesn’t know what to make of the Governor’s revelations.

Malik, in an event that had taken place on November 24, in Gwalior, said that the Modi-led ruling government had wanted him to install Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference chief Sajad Lone as the region’s chief minister before the dissolution of the assembly last week.

If he had listened to “Delhi”, he would have become “dishonest forever”.

In an interview with India Today TV, Governor Malik said that there was no political pressure or interference from the government of India, and that he was “completely apolitical”.

He said Lone was the first person to stake a claim to form a new administration. Mufti’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Conference (which was part of the other prospective alliance) weren’t serious about forming a government, and wanted to see the state assembly dissolved, Malik said.

Kavinder Gupta of the BJP, the former deputy chief minister, said there was no pressure on Satya Pal Malik. The Governor was giving statements to remain in the news, Gupta said.

His comments come after regional mainstream parties staked a claim to form the government at the State level, which subsequently led the region’s Governor Satya Pal Malik to dissolve the assembly minutes later.
