Offer prayers for slain militants, civilians on Sunday, says Joint Resistance

‘Dictatorship, arrogance of Indian government responsible for killing of Kashmiris’

Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) of Kashmir Saturday appealed people to offer absentia prayers in mosques, Khankhas and Imam Baras on Sunday for “martyrs and also pray for the freedom of Kashmir.”

The JRL, comprised of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhmmmad Yasin Malik, (who is currently under detention) in a statement denounced the policy of “killing and repression adopted by Indian authorities and said that the ongoing bloodshed at the hands of government forces amounts to systematic genocide of Kashmiris.”

While cautioning that attempt by authorities through use of “brute force and coercion to bent people of Kashmir” on their knees and force them to give up their genuine struggle, “nurtured by the sacrifices of lakhs of martyrs, will only further deteriorate the already deteriorated situation on the ground.”

Six militants of the Zakir Musa lead Ansar Ghazat-ul-Hind were today killed in a gunfight in Tral village of Pulwama district.

The killed militant have been identified as Sualeh Mohammad Akhoon son of Ghulam Mohammad Akhoon of Arampora, Rasik Mir son of Ghulam Qadir, Rouf Mir son of Ghulam Nabi, Umer Ramzan son of Mohammad Ramzan Mir, residents of Dadsara, Nadeem Sofi son of Mohammad Muzaffar Sofi of Batgund Tral and Faisal Javid Khanday son of Javid Khanday of Amlar Awantipora.

Earlier, on December 15, seven civilians were killed after armed forces opened fire on civilian protesters near the site of a gunfight in Kharpora Sarnoo village of Pulwama district last week. Three militants and an army man were killed in the gunfight.

National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah while reacting on the killings said that it is a massacre and there is no other way to describe it.

Earlier, Abdullah while reacting to the civilian killings had said that it was ‘another blood soaked weekend in Kashmir‘.

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti while reacting to the civilian killings said that there would be no probe which would bring back the dead. She also asked that ‘is this what was expected from the Governor rule’.

She also said that no country can win a war by killing its own people.

Peoples’ Conference chief Sajad Lone while reacting on the civilian killings said that the administration seriously needs to evaluate the cost of such operations. He added that ‘hope the administration gives up its ‘Rambo mindset‘.

Police, in their statement said that they were ‘deeply grieved’ by the loss of civilian lives, however, claimed that the crowd came ‘dangerously close‘ to the gunfight site.

The JRL has also said said that it is the dictatorship and arrogance of Indian government and its reluctance to engage in a peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute which is responsible for killing of the Kashmiris.
