Nauman Bhat, killed by armed forces in November, clears class 10 examinations

Srinagar: As results for the annual matriculation examinations was announced, many names made headlines for excellence in performance.

One among them is the name of teenage boy Nauman Ashraf Bhat.

Nauman was shot dead by armed forces a month ago during clashes at a gunfight site, in Kapren, where six militants were believed to be trapped. His results show that he has passed the exams he sat for.

On November 25, Nauman was killed near the gunfight site after live bullets were fired at the protestors by the armed forces resulting in Nauman’s death.

“Numan had finished his practical exam on Saturday, and on Sunday morning, he left to get bread for breakfast. We kept waiting for him to come back, but he did not. His dead body reached my courtyard,” Mohammed Ashraf, his father had said.

He said that his son dreamed to help his family and bring them out of poverty. “I do not want to become a doctor or engineer, but I just want to study well and take my family out of poverty,” his father remembers him saying.

Nauman has two siblings, 14 year old Nadeem and three month old Hammad.
