Srinagar: Three personnel of the 44 Rashtriya Rifles have been detained by the Indian Army and are being questioned for their alleged involvement in the abduction and killing of army man Aurangzeb in June last year. Quoting sources, Indian Express reported that the three personnel allegedly shared information about the rifleman who was abducted after he left the camp for his home in Poonch.

According to the IE report, the 3 personnel detained and facing an inquiry are Abid Wani, Tajamul Ahmad and Adil Wani.

“Two are from Pulwama and one is from Kulgam (police districts). Their role came up during the investigation into the killing of Aurangzeb,” sources said, as per the report.

Aurangzeb’s killing sparked outrage in India. He was given the Shaurya Chakra posthumously on Independence Day last year.

At a rally in Jammu on Sunday, his father joined the BJP in presence of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. One of the brother of the three armymen detained, Tawseef Ahmad was allegedly assaulted by RR personnel on Monday and was taken to the hospital, reporting multiple bruises.

Quoting Defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia, IE reported that details were being ascertained about the incident. Ahmad was first taken to the Pulwama district hospital from where he was referred to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital in Srinagar, the report stated.

Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti visited the Srinagar hospital on Tuesday and was quoted in the report as having said: “I will talk to the Corps Commander regarding the matter. I am sure Governor Sahib will take note of this matter… his brother is also missing, his whereabouts are not known.”

The report quoted Ahmad’s family members stating that he had been called to the RR camp in Pulwama where he was allegedly beaten. He had been spotted by a local resident and taken to the hospital, according to the report, quoting the victim’s cousin.

The medical superintendent of the Pulwama district hospital, Dr Abdul Rashid Parra told IE that the victim’s full body was bruised.
