Srinagar: Fresh snowfall and multiple landslides in the Banihal area and the Ramban-Ramsoo sector respectively blocked the Jammu- Kashmir highway and halted traffic on Thursday, according to a report by IANS.

“Over a foot of fresh snow has accumulated on the highway in Bannihal sector. There have been multiple landslides triggered by heavy rain at places in the Ramsoo-Ramban sector, as well,” a traffic department official was quoted as having said in the report.

Currently, heavy rain has engulfed the region as well as the highway.

“No vehicular traffic will be allowed on the highway today. Snow and landslide clearance operation will be started immediately after the weather improves,” the Traffic Department said, as per the IANS report.

The official said stranded vehicles along the highway were all parked at safe places, according to the report.

Earlier, the highway had remained closed for six consecutive day until February 12, leading to an acute shortage crisis of stock essentials in the Valley.
