Indian jets violate LoC, ‘drop payload in haste’, says Pak; Targeted ‘militant camp’, claims India

India has said that they carried out a pre-dawn strike on a ‘militant camp’ across the Line of Control soon after Pakistan army said that Indian fighter jets were forced to leave after they crossed the LoC in Muzaffarabad sector.

According to reports, the strike was carried out at around 3:30 this morning by 12 Mirage 2000 fighter jets. The aircraft dropped, according to reports, ‘1,000 kg laser-guided bombs on a major militant camp across the Line of Control, completely destroying it’, news agency ANI reported, quoting Air Force sources.

Earlier, Pakistan Army claimed that the Indian military planes “intruded” from the Muzaffarabad sector but were forced to go back after Pakistan Air Force “immediately scrambled”.
Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations Major-General Asif Ghafoor, in a tweet said:

In another tweet, Ghafoor said:

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated after the Pulwama suicide bombing in which 49 CRPF personnel were killed and the attack was claimed by Jaish-e-Mohammad.

Modi blamed Pakistan for the Pulwama attack and said that the country has become ‘‘synonym for terrorism’.

Following the attack, Pakistan called back their High Commissioner to India Sohail Mahmood for ‘consultations’. Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said he had written a letter to the United Nations secretary general, asking him to play his role for the “de-escalation” of current tensions.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, in response to Modi’s comments, said that they would retaliate if India would start a war.

The attack led to Kashmiris being harassed and abused across the country, prompting Modi to say that ‘our fight is for Kashmir, not against Kashmiris’.

National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah in a series of tweets, while thanking Modi, said that the forces who are harassing Kashmiris would stop now.
