Youth arrested on ‘mere suspicion’ after Musa’s killing should be immediately released: Justice Masoodi

Srinagar: Newly elected Member of Parliament Justice (retd) Hasnain Masoodi has demanded that all youth who were arrested after the killing of militant Commander Zakir Musa should be released without any delay.

The National Conference leader while addressing workers in Anantnag said, “We demand an immediate release of the arrested youth without causing any blemish on their career so that they can immediately re-join their respective education institutions and resume their studies,” Justice Masoodi said.

He said that hundreds of youth from south Kashmir areas like Kokernag, Anantnag, Qazigund, Awantipora, Pampore, Seer Hamdan and other places and a good number of them reportedly juveniles have been arrested on mere suspicion and locked in the police stations after the killing of Musa.

Masoodi appealed to the administration to immediately let off the youth without registering a case as they have been arrested on “mere suspicion that they may join a religious gathering” and registration of cases in these circumstances would unjustifiably put their career at peril and push them to uncertainty.

Musa, the head of the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, was killed in a gunfight at Dadsara village of Tral in the south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday after forces launched a search operation on late Thursday evening following specific information about the presence of militants there.

The officials said efforts were made to make Musa surrender, but he turned down the request and lobbed grenades on the forces using a launcher, triggering a gunfight in which Musa was killed in the early hours of Friday.

His killing led to spontaneous shutdown and protests in the valley.
