Zakir Musa’s idea of militancy came to an end with his killing, says DGP Singh

Srinagar: Top cop of Jammu and Kashmir Dilbag Singh has said that the ‘new idea of militancy introduced by Zakir Musa ended with his death.’

While taking to media in Poonch, he said that Musa started a new idea of militancy but his idea came to an end with his killing.

Singh also said that there are around 275 militants active in the valley, out of which 100-120 are foreigners.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted between the students of Central University of Kashmir, Ganderbal and Islamia collage.

Musa, the head of the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, was killed in the encounter at Dadsara village of Tral in the south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday after forces launched a search operation on late Thursday evening following specific information about the presence of militants there.

The officials said efforts were made to make Musa surrender, but he turned down the request and lobbed grenades on the forces using a launcher, triggering a gunfight in which Musa was killed in the early hours of Friday.

His killing led to spontaneous shutdown and protests in the valley.
