Awantipora Gunfight: Train service suspended on Srinagar-Banihal track

Srinagar: Authorities on Friday suspended the train services from Srinagar to Banihal in wake of a gunfight in South Kashmir’s Awantipora.

“We have suspended train services in South Kashmir for security reasons,” a railway official said.

Earlier, two militants were killed in ongoing gunfight which broke out between militants and armed forces in Braw bandina area of Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday morning.

An official source said that as the house in which militants were hiding went up in flames, the militants came out of the house and were killed by the armed forces. The militants are believed to be associated with LeT.

As per the reports searches are still going on at gunfight site as this report was being filed.

Meanwhile mobile internet has been suspended in the Awantipora area for ‘precautionary measures’.

However, trains continued to chug on Srinagar-Budgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir as per schedule, an official said.
