No additional deployment of armed forces being done, says ADGP Muneer Khan

‘100 companies coming from outside will replace training companies of paramilitary forces’

Srinagar: Appealing people not to give ear to rumours, Additional Director General Police (ADGP) Law and Order Muneer Khan on Saturday said 100 companies of paramilitary forces will replace those personnel of training companies, who are deployed on various duties since last year starting from Urban Local Bodies elections.

“Around 200 training companies are presently performing duties in the Valley which are to be replaced in phased manner. More training companies will be relived in due course of time with fresh forces. Presently around 200 companies of paramilitary are deployed in Kashmir,” he said.

“Reality is that 200 training companies of paramilitary forces were in Kashmir since the commencement of Urban Local Body elections. They had come from outside state and are performing their duties since then without any break and were overstretched,” Khan said.

“Now they will be replaced by these 100 companies and it is a routine exercise being carried out. In the first, 100 companies will replace the training companies and in next phase another 100 companies will replaces the rest of the training companies,” he added.

Asked to comment about the apprehensions of the people that Centre was planning to revoke Article 35A, after August 15, due to which the additional deployments were being made, the ADGP Khan said, “it is a rumour mongering and there is no truth in it. These apprehensions are totally unfounded.”

Earlier PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti had said that Government of India’s decision to deploy 10,000 troops in the valley has created fear psychosis in people.

In a tweet, the former Chief Minister added that JK is a political problem and cannot be solved by military means.

New Delhi on Thursday ordered deployment of additional 100 companies of CAPFs “in order to strengthen the CI (counter-insurgency) grid as well as for maintaining law and order situation” in Jammu and Kashmir.
