Houses damaged, animals killed in cross border shelling in Poonch

Poonch: Many houses damaged, and at least half a dozen animals were killed, as Indo Pak armies exchanged heavy gunfire along line of control (LOC) in Poonch district on early Tuesday.

According to officials, many residential houses damaged and a dozen animals were killed after Pakistan army heavy shelled forward posts and civilian areas along line of control (LOC) in Balakote sector on early Tuesday.

Army officials said that Pakistan initiated the unprovoked ceasefire violation by targeting Balakote area in Mendhar sector in Poonch district, drawing befitting response from the Indian army.

A dozen domestic animals in forward Sohala village were killed in the Balakot sector.

“A team, including officials from the revenue, veterinary, health departments headed by the tehsildar, was rushed to the forward areas to assess the losses,” said Sahil Jandyal, Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

He said in the shelling many residential house were also damaged.
