Over 2,000 deaths in a single day pushes India’s COVID death toll to 11,903; JK records 64 deaths so far

3,54,065 people across India have tested positive and 1,86,935 have recovered

78 test positive in J&K taking the total to 5,298

India has had a very tough fight with the coronavirus with death toll of 11,903 as 2,003 fatalities were recorded in a single day. The data on the Health Ministry’s website that shows the spike in the number of deaths came after the states including Delhi and Maharashtra reconciled their data from previous days.

So far, 3,54,065 people have tested positive for the virus and 1,86,935 have recovered with the recovery rate being at 52.79 percent currently.

Maharashtra, the worst hit state recorded 1,328 deaths, taking the death toll in the state to 5, 537 and majorly contributing to the drastic rise in the death toll per day.

As the situation pertaining to the novel coronavirus in worsening day by day, the Centre increased the daily testing capacity to three lakh samples.

In the wake of the virus, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi commenced with his sixth round of consultations with chief ministers in three months in order to discuss the current scenario while laying emphasis on life and livelihood.

In Jammu and Kashmir, with the death of a 65-year-old man in Shopian, the death toll now reaches 64.

As of now, 78 new cases of covid-19 have been recorded which include 23 travellers and 4 pregnant women.

The total number of positive cases for the coronavirus in J&K is 5,298 with 2454 active cases and 2,781 recovered cases.

Budgam district recorded the highest number of positive cases with the tally of 259 cases till now.
