Srinagar: Kashmir Valley on Saturday reported two more deaths due to COVID-19, taking the death toll due to the disease in J-K to seventy-eight. The latest fatalities are two women—a 40-year-old from Safa Kadal locality of Srinagar, and a 55-year-old from Tujan village of Pulwama district.
Dr Salim Tak, Medical Superintendent Chest Disease (CD) hospital, said that the woman from Safa Kadal with underlying heart ailment and diabetes died six days after she was admitted to the hospital. “She was admitted to SHMS [Shri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital] and after testing positive, she was referred to CD hospital on 14 June,” he added.
Professor Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, said that a 55-year-old woman from Tujan Pulwama died four days after her admission to the tertiary care hospital. “She was referred from SMHS hospital as a case of meningioma (brain tumor) with obstructive sleep apnea (a serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts),” he said, adding, “She died at 6:45 a.m. due to cardiopulmonary arrest.”
So far, as per the official data, seventy-eight people have succumbed to the virus in J-K—nine from Jammu and sixty-nine from the Valley.
Srinagar district with nineteen deaths has the highest fatalities followed by thirteen in Baramulla, ten in Shopian, eight in Kulgam, six in Jammu, five each in Anantnag, Kupwara, and Budgam, three in Pulwama while one death each has been reported from Bandipora, Doda, Udhampur, and Rajouri.
