LIVE: Police identifies two among three militants killed in gunfight in Srinagar’s Zunimar

5 pm: Police has said that two out of three three militants killed in a gunfight at Srinagar have been identified.

“On a specific input generated by Police regarding presence of terrorists in Zadibal area of district Srinagar, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police and CRPF in the said area,” police said.

They have been identified by the police as Shakoor Farooq Langoo of Bharthana Srinagar and Shahid Ahmad Bhat of Semthan Bijbehara.

As per police records,  Shakoor Farooq Lango was involved in the killing of two BSF personnel at 90ft road Soura on 20/05/2020 and the snatched AK rifle was recovered from the site of the gunfight.

The identification of the third militant is yet to be ascertained.

 

12: 42 pm: Third militant has been killed in the gunfight at Pozwalpora area of Zunimar in Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone VIjay Kumar said that three unidentified militant has been killed so far, while searches are still going on.

 

12: 38 pm: One more militant has been killed in a gunfight in Srinagar on Sunday.

Police said that one more militant has been killed in the gunfight in Zoonimar area Srinagar, taking death toll of militants to two. “The gunfight is on,” they said.

 

A militant was killed in an ongoing gunfight in Pozwalpora area of Zunimar in Kashmir capital on Sunday, reports said.

The gunfight broke out after a joint team of Police and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Pozwalpora, reported news agency GNS.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar while talking to media said that they tried to persuade the militants to surrender.

He said that the parents of the militants were brought to the site of the gunfight, but they (militants) refused to surrender.

One among the trapped militants is involved in last month’s attack in Pandach area of Ganderbal, in which two BSF personnel were killed, the IGP added.

Authorities have suspended mobile Internet services in the city as a precautionary measure, a police official said.

Restrictions on the movement of people have also been imposed in most parts in downtown areas of the city, he added.
