3 members quit BJP in North Kashmir citing threat, lack of development

Srinagar: As another Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader has resigned from the party on Thursday, taking the number of resignations from north Kashmir to three from last six days.

Reports said that a local social activist from Handwara, identified as Mubeena Bano, who had joined BJP few months before, resigned today citing that BJP does not do anything on ground.

“I had joined BJP to resolve the issues of people. But nothing is being done on the ground by the party forcing me to resign from it,” Mubeena told a local news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service.

Earlier on Saturday, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) president from Baramulla, Marouf Bhat tendered his resignation from the party.

“I hereby resign from the BJYM as a member and any post I held as part of it. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to work for the party,” Bhat was quoted by a national newspaper as saying.

The former leader told the newspaper that he can sacrifice his life for the nation but not his children. “I have been attacked twice in the past, yet nothing has been done about it. I have not been given even a single personal security officer,” the report quoted Bhat as saying.

Two days later, BJP’s Vice President for Kupwara Asif Ahmad, presented his resignation from the party.

“I am from a well off family. I did not join BJP to make money but to work for my people. But we are not allowed to work by officials. BJP has no value on the ground. Officials are not bothered to listen to us and address issues of people,” Asif told news agency KINS.

On July 8, a BJP youth leader Waseem Bari along with his father and brother, was killed outside his home in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
