Day after killing of 2 militants, IGP Kashmir says no resident of Srinagar in militant ranks

Srinagar: A day after killing of two militants in a gunfight in Ranbirgarh area of Srinagar, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Sunday said that no militant from Srinagar district is now in militant ranks.

Taking to the social media site Twitter, Police Kashmir Zone, wrote: “After killing of LeT militant Ishfaq Rashid Khan yesterday, no resident of Srinagar district in militant ranks now: IGP Kashmir @JmuKmrPolice, (sic).”

Pertinently, on July 25, 2020, two militants were killed in a gunfight between militants and armed forces in Ranbirgarh area of Srinagar. Police have identified one of the militant as Ishfaq Rashid Khan, a resident of Srinagar.

Reports suggest that besides two militants, an armed forces personnel was also injured during the gunfight.

On Saturday, soon after the gunfight ended, Police said that bodies of the slain militants shall be sent to Ganderbal for their last rites after conducting medico-legal formalities including a collection of their DNA.
