Territorial Army personnel Shakir Manzoor was abducted and his car set on fire

Srinagar: Five days after the ‘abduction’ of an armed forces personnel from South Kashmir’s Shopian district, who was ‘kidnapped’ by suspected militants in Kulgam, locals found his clothes in an orchard in Landoora village of Imamsahab in Shopian.

Official sources told Free Press Kashmir that soon after locals spotted the clothes belonging to the armed forces personnel identified as Shakir Manzoor, the concerned police station was informed and joint team of army personnels and Special Operations Group (SOG) rushed to the spot.

“Some clothes have been found and facts are being ascertained,” officials told Free Press Kashmir.

Soon after the belongings of Shakir were traced, the whole area was cordoned off and sniffer dogs were pressed into service in order to find more evidence.

Search operation in the area was underway when this report was filed.

On August 2, suspected militants abducted Shakir Manzoor from South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

“He was on leave and was heading home to Rishipora for Eid when his car was intercepted by gunmen. He was immediately abducted and they also burnt his car,” police had said.

His charred vehicle was found empty on the spot from where he was abducted.

The family members had appealed to the abductors to release him issuing an apology on his behalf.

“We appeal to the abductors to please forgive him if he has committed a mistake and let him go for the sake of God,” a family member had said in a video appeal addressed to Shakir’s abductors.
