Srinagar: Suspected Militants on Sunday abducted an armed forces personnel and set ablaze his vehicle in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

The Territorial Army (TA) personnel identified as Shakir Manzoor was intercepted near Damhal Hanjipora in Kulgam.

A senior Police officer told Free Press Kashmir that search operations have been launched to trace out the abducted TA personnel.

The army personnel, a resident of Harmain area of Shopian district, was abducted and his car was burnt down, the official said.

“He was on leave and was heading home to Rishipora for Eid when his car was intercepted by gunmen. He was immediately abducted and they also burnt his car.”

Contrary to this, one of the family members said that Shakir was on his way for official duties when he was abducted.

Shakir’s family member made an appeal to the abductors and said, “he has four sister and old parents to take care of. We appeal to the abductors to please forgive him if he has committed a mistake and let him go for the sake of God.”

“We got to know his vehicle was burnt down, but when we reached the spot we only found the car, there was no trace of him,” he added.

“Please let him go. We don’t need anything, we have everything, just let our bother go. We don’t need this job. We just need our brother back,” Shakir’s sister appealed to his abductors.
