Militant escaped during gunfight in Pulwama, says Army

Srinagar: In a gunfight, where a militant and an armed forces personnel, were killed in Kamrazipora area of Pulwama district this morning, one militant has managed to escape from the spot.

An army official said that during the gunfight one militant managed to escape and another was killed. He said, two armed personnel were also injured and subsequently shifted to an army hospital.

Among the two injured personnel identified as Sepoy Julajit Yadav succumbed to his injuries and another one identified as Sepoy Vikas who had received bullet injuries on the leg is being treated at 92 base army hospital in Srinagar.

According to police, the militant identified as Azaad Lalhari, was involved in the killing of police head constable Anoop Singh on 22 May 2020 at Prichu Pulwahma where he fired at a Naka party.

DGP Dilbag Singh told news agency GNS that 6 FIRs were against Azaad for militant related killings. “Earlier he was detained under PSA as OGW and became active again,” the DGP said, adding that charge sheet had been filed against him in two cases earlier.

The gunfight began after militants fired upon a joint team of police, army and CRPF’s 53 battalion after they launched a cordon-and-search operation at Kamrazipura area in the district.
