Militant, armed forces personnel killed in gunfight in Pulwama, says army

Srinagar: A militant and an armed forces personnel were killed in a gunfight in Kamrazipora village near Karpora Damb in Pulwama district, on Wednesday morning.

The gunfight broke out this morning in Kamrazipora village following a brief exchange of gunfire, official sources said.

As the gunfight began, two armed forces personnel received injuries and were subsequently shifted to an army hospital.  The sources added that among the two injured personnel, one succumbed to his injuries at 92 base army hospital in Srinagar.

Earlier, Police said that one unidentified militant was killed in the gunfight.

In this regard, army in a statement said that an armed forces personnel and a militant were killed in a gunfight in Kamrazipora Pulwama. “One AK along with grenades, pouches and other warlike stores were recovered from the spot,” the army spokesman said.

Official sources have identified the slain militant as Azad Ahmad Lone, a resident of Lelhar Pulwama, who joined the militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed in March 2020.

Azad, according to the sources, was an Over Ground Worker previously and imprisoned for very long.

Pertinently, this was perhaps the first time that Internet services were not snapped in the district amidst the gunfight.
