Curfew in Kishtwar, shutdown in Reasi over ‘blasphemous remarks’ of Hindu priest against Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ)

Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam calls for peaceful protests on Friday

Srinagar: A complete shutdown is being witnessed in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday following a shutdown call by religious organizations over blasphemous remarks of a Hindu priest.

Reports said that protest demonstrations were also held to condemn the disrespecting remarks of a Hindu priest identified as Satpal Sharma, against Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ).

Satpal, according to the reports, had uploaded the video containing disrespecting and derogatory words “at the behest of political power”.

On Monday, a large number of people took to the streets in Reasi condemning the act. The protestors demanded action against the priest and others responsible for uploading the derogatory video.

Reports added that all the shops and other business establishments are closed in the district and due to the protest; traffic movement was also disrupted on the highway.

The shutdown call was jointly given by Markazi Majlis-e-Shura Kishtwar, Sout-ul-Awaliya, Anjuman-e-Islamia Kishtwar and other Muslim organizations.

Meanwhile, curfew has been imposed in Kishtwar district and armed forces personnel are on alert, “in order to avoid any untoward incident”.

In this regard, Grand Mufti Jammu and Kashmir Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said disrespecting Prophet (ﷺ) won’t be tolerated and appealed people to hold peaceful protests after prayers on the upcoming Friday.
