In a bizarre turn of events, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Sunday, threatened to punch a press reporter on his mouth after Bolsonaro was asked about his wife’s connection with an alleged corruption scheme.

“I so want to pound your face with punches,” said the President in response to the O Globo reporter’s question about bank deposits made in the account of his wife, First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro by Fabricio Queiroz, a former aide to one of his sons.

According to previous reports by the Brazilian media, the Queiroz deposited 72,000 Reais in the first lady’s account between 2011 and 2018.

“The reporter was part of a group that met Bolsonaro after his regular Sunday visit to the Metropolitan Cathedral in Brasilia,” reported AFP.

It further quoted the O Globo’s statement saying that President’s outburst was “aggression … towards a Journalist from our newspaper who was carrying out his job in a professional manner. Such intimidation shows that Jair Bolsonaro does not acknowledge the duty of a public servant… to be accountable to the public.”

The reporter had asked about the report in a magazine called Crusoe that linked the First Lady to Fabricino Queiroz who is a retired police officer, a friend of the President, and former adviser to her son Flavio Bolsonaro.

Queiroz and Flavio are being investigated for a scheme alleging them of defrauding pay from government employees when the younger Bolsonaro was a regional lawmaker in Rio De Janeiro.

Bolsonaro faced criticism by social media users after he mistook a dwarf for a child and lifted him on his shoulders during his visit to Aracaju on Thursday.
