2 more militants killed, toll reaches 4 in Shopian gunfight; 1 surrendered, says Police

Srinagar: Two more militants were killed in an ongoing gunfight that broke out between militants and armed forces in Kiloora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday afternoon taking the toll of slain militants to four.

A senior police official said that four militants have been killed in an exchange of fire between armed forces personnel and militants in Kiloora, Shopian.Besides this, one militant has surrendered and search operation in the area is going on.

Police also added that Al-Badar District Commander identified as Shakoor Parray and Suhail Bhat, who according to the police, earlier abducted and killed a Panchayat representative from Khanmoh, were killed in today’s gunfight.

Army in a statement said that four militants have been killed so far and another has surrendered. Besides, two Ak 47 rifles, one pistol has also been recovered from the gunfight spot.

Earlier, the gunfight began after a joint team of Police, army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them ensuing a gunfight.
