Sudarshan News ‘exposes’ Muslims in civil services as ‘Bureaucracy Jihad’, gets called out for hate-speech

What if ‘Jihadis of Jamia’ become your district collectors, Suresh Chavanke asks

‘Big Expose on infiltration of Muslims into institutions’

‘How are they excelling with high marks in such difficult exams?’

Srinagar: Two days after Suresh Chavhanke, the head of Delhi based television channel Sudarshan News, tweeted a teaser for a show questioning the ‘infiltration’ of Muslims in the civil services, several officers and the IPS Association have joined the chorus of outrage on social media to condemn the hate speech.

“How come suddenly the number of Muslims has increased in IAS and IPS? What is the secret behind them getting the highest marks and ranks in one of the toughest exams?”  Chavhanke asks in the video.

“Imagine if the ‘Jihadis of Jamia’ will be your district collectors and secretaries in ministries, what will happen then? Watch our biggest expose on ‘Naukarshahi jihad’ (bureaucracy jihad) this Friday,” he adds.

Scheduled to be aired on August 28, the teaser of the report has been termed as “hate speech” and questioning to a constitutional body like the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which selects the civil servants by the officers.

As the video was shared, social media users protested against the hate speech, calling for the suspension of Chavhanke’s Twitter account, by using the hashtag #SuspendSureshChavhanke.

Condemning the act, the IPS Association termed the speech as irresponsible piece of journalism.

“A news story targeting candidates in civil services on the basis of religion is being promoted by Sudarshan TV. We condemn the communal and irresponsible piece of journalism,” the IPS Association wrote on their official twitter handle.

A number of serving and retired civil service officers too joined in to condemn the video.

“By casting doubts on the integrity and impartiality of a constitutional body like the UPSC in the selection of officers for All-India Services, he is spreading disaffection for the constitutional scheme of governance,” said a retired IPS officer N C Asthana while condeming the act.

Another officer IPS officer Niharika Bhatt wrote: “A despicable attempt at hate mongering. To question the credentials of officers on the basis of religion is not only laughable, but should also be dealt with strictest legal provisions. We are all Indians first.”

Besides this, political analyst Tahseen Poonawalla have written to the president of the News Broadcasting Association to stop the telecast of the programme scheduled for Friday.

However, Chavhanke in his defense have posted several tweets standing by his claims and adding that all queries will be answered when the “exposé is aired.”

Earlier, the Jamia Millia Islamia University has also said that it was planning to take legal action against Sudarshan News for the “offensive promo”.

Pertinent to mention that Chavhanke is notorious for his communally-charged remarks and misinformation campaigns particularly in blaming the Muslim community of India.
