‘He gave her poison and killed her’: Family of 37-year-old woman stage protest in Srinagar

Srinagar: The family members of a 37-year-old woman of Charar-i-sharief area in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, who allegedly died by suicide, staged a protest at press colony Srinagar, demanding action against the accused.

The protesting family members, alleging that she died after her husband poisoned her, assembled at press enclave and sought his arrest on an immediate basis.

Earlier, a 37-year-old woman from Namtehal Chadoora was rushed to the sub-district hospital Chadoora after she had taken some poisonous  substance at her home. However, the woman was later declared dead.

According to the protesting family members, who spoke to Free Press Kashmir, ever since she was married to Gulam Rasool Wani of Namtehal area of Chadoora, she witnessed “gruesome violence” by her in-laws, as they used to “beat her time and again”.

“They have always been greedy of money and property,” said one of the protesting family members.

“When we reached the sub-district hospital Chadoora she was alive and we asked her what happened to her. She said that she didn’t take poison but was forced by her husband to take the poison,” the family members alleged.

The family members alleged that she was given poison this morning because of which she died.

Meanwhile, police have taken the cognizance of the incident and further investigations have been taken up.
