Srinagar: After the family approached the District Magistrate (DM) Shopian in south Kashmir regarding their ‘disappeared’ kin, the DM has asked the district’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to lodge a missing report.
Naseer Wani has not returned home ever since he was taken by Indian Army’s 44-RR unit in Shadimarg village, Pulwama, for ‘questioning’ on the night of November 2019, the family says.
According to a letter issued from the office of District Magistrate Shopian, a copy of which lies with Free Press Kashmir, “the family members of the youth identified as Naseer Ahmed Wani, son of Mohammad Hussain Wani, a resident of Doompora Shopian, approached this office with the request that their son was taken into custody by 44-RR camp Shadimarg for questioning. The family members further reported that on approaching the 44-RR camp Shadimarg they were told that their son has been released on November 30, 2019, however, their son did not return back to home and the family is not knowing about his whereabouts”.
Referring to the SSP, the letter further read: “in this context, you are requested to file a missing report of said Naseer Ahmed Wani, son of Mohammad Hussian Wani, a resident of Doompora Shopian and initiate action about his whereabouts”.
The family members of the missing youth told Free Press Kashmir that on the night of November 29, 2019, at around 10:00 pm, a posse of armed forces personnel from Shadimarg camp searched their residential house and took their kin Naseer Ahmed Wani, along.
“Besides this, they also took away six cell phones and cricket bats from our house after searching every corner,” Nasser’s father, Mohammad Hussain told FPK.
Soon, when the family approached a police station in Keegam for filing a missing report, they alleged that the concerned Station House Officer (SHO) refused to file the report or to take any action.
“He told us to visit Shadimarg army camp and strictly refused to file the case,” Hussian said.
The family said that they subsequently visited the office of Deputy Commissioner Shopian and Shadimarg camp in Pulwama as well; however, failed to get any clue about their kin.
“At both the places, we were told that our son has been released a day after he was picked, but the question is if my son was released where has he gone then,” Hussain asked, adding that army must have informed them that their son has been released.
The family added that they were also told by the army that when Naseer Ahmed was released, they asked a local passerby driving on the bike to drop him, however; alleged that army says after that they don’t know where he went.
In this regard, when SHO Keegam spoke to FPK, he said that the missing report has been lodged and for further details, senior officers of police must be approached.
