Woman raped at gunpoint in UP’s Muzaffarnagar, says police ‘accused arrested’

Uttar Pradesh: Weeks after the “gang-rape and murder” of a young woman by four upper-caste Hindu men in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh, the state has witnessed yet another rape incident in which a woman was allegedly raped by a man at gunpoint in state’s Muzaffarnagar.

However, police have taken the action in this regard and arrested the accused on Monday, a report by news agency PTI said.

According to a complaint lodged by the woman, the man allegedly raped her in a sugarcane field on Sunday.

Police added that a case was registered against the accused, identified as Shravan Kumar (26), under relevant sections of the IPC on the basis of the complaint and subsequently arrested.

In another incident, a blind woman was allegedly raped by her relative on the pretext of marriage for several months, police said, according to the report.

A case was registered against the accused under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 420 (cheating), SHO Deepak Chaturvedi said.

In this regard, the police added that efforts were underway to nab the accused.
