Land laws: Bhim Singh says ‘will knock doors of International Court of Justice if SC turns down plea’

Srinagar: Day after Government of India notified land laws, paving the way for any citizen of India to buy land in Jammu and Kashmir, National Panthers Party patron Professor Bhim Singh said he will knock at the doors of International Court of Justice if the Supreme Court of India turns down his plea.

“What the Government of India has done is unconstitutional, illegal and irrational. It has stabbed the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their back and has betrayed them. It has violated the Constitution of India,” Singh told news agency KNT.

He said tampering with land laws of Jammu and Kashmir is totally against the letter and spirit of Fundamental Rights guaranteed to citizens by the Constitution of India.

“It is unfortunate that some BJP leaders in Jammu don’t foresee ‘catastrophe’ that is going to hit the region. They are basically ignorant who barely know ABC of Jammu Kashmir History,”  Singh said.

He said that it is the question of people of Jammu and Kashmir and he will play a part in it.

“Kashmiris have suffered a lot while the identity of Dogras in Jammu is at risk. It is the question of integration, rights and Constitution,” Singh said adding that if the need arises, he will knock at the doors of International Court of Justice.

Meanwhile, Jammu based PDP leader Surinder Chaudhary said that rapes will increase in Jammu and Kashmir if Indians from the rest of the country come to settle here after changes in land laws.

Meanwhile, the GoI’s move to amend several laws including those that deal with land ownership has fetched a huge criticism from mainstream political parties of Jammu and Kashmir, which said the erstwhile state has now been put up “for sale”.
