Anti-BJP protest held in Jammu, protesters seek apology from Yudvir Sethi ‘effigy torched’

Jammu: Jammu youth on Tuesday staged a protest against Bhartiya Janta Party and its senior leader Yudvir Sethi for his remarks against people seeking restoration of 4G mobile internet services.

Sethi, who is BJP’s state vice president from Jammu, had issued a statement two days ago in which he said that those demanding restoration of 4G mobile internet services are “sympathisers of militants”.

The protesters torched Sethi’s effigy and also raised slogans against BJP and its leader. Vasudev, a youth activist heading the protest said that remarks by Sethi are highly objectionable and intolerable.

“We are nationalists and are demanding 4G mobile internet services but Sethi called us militant sympathisers which is highly unfortunate,” Vasudev, a young protestor said.

Another youth said that Sethi must tender an apology for his remarks as he has hurt the sentiments.

Internet services were suspended in Jammu and Kashmir last year on August 5, hours before the Government of India revoked the special status of JK and divided the state into two Union Territories.

Later on January 25, this year, the low-speed or 2G internet service was restored; however, the restrictions on high-speed continues. On August 16, GoI resumed high-speed mobile data service in Ganderbal and Udhampur districts on a “trial basis”.
