Military operation against militants begins in Poonch, says police

Poonch: A military operation against militants has started near Dugran along the Mughal road in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Sunday.

Official sources said that a joint team of JK police and army’s 16 RR had launched a joint a cordon-and-search-operation in the area that resulted in contact with the hiding militants. “A contact has been established with the militants and firing has started from both sides,” they said.

A top police official said that a group of three militants are likely trapped at Chatta-Pani area along Mughal Road which falls under the territorial jurisdiction of Surankote police station of Poonch district.

“The area is covered under snow making the operation very difficult,” the official said. (KNO)
