Man arrested in ‘hit and run case’ in Srinagar, vehicle seized: Police

Srinagar: Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a man in ‘hit and run’ case in Srinagar and also seized his vehicle.

In a statement, police said: “Srinagar police solved hit and run case and arrested the accused involved in the commission of the crime. On 17, 12, 2020, Police Station Shergarhi received information that an unknown  Santro Vehicle has hit a person near Solina who has been shifted to SMHS hospital in critical condition.”

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 78/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Shergarhi and investigation into the matter was initiated. The injured person later succumbed to his injuries on 23, 1, 2020.

During the course of the investigation, CCTV footage was obtained and analysed which lead to the involvement of a suspicious white colour Santro vehicle with Delhi based registration number. Accordingly, search for the vehicle was started and wide coverage was also given on all media platforms, the police statement said.

“With the aid of technical evidence, human inputs and strenuous efforts, the investigating team zeroed in on one accused person identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Assadullah resident of Hardashoora A/P Faizan Colony Nayak Bagh Nowgam. On questioning, the accused person confessed his involvement in the commission of the crime. The said accused has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody. Besides, the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized,” it mentioned.

Meanwhile, police have arrested four gamblers from a gambling site and seized Rs 79000 stake money from their possession in Srinagar.

“A police party of Police Station Zakura raided a gambling site at Shah Hamdan Colony after following an input about gambling activities and apprehended 04 gamblers. They have been identified as Manzoor Ahamed Dar resident of Shah Hamdan Colony Zakura, Bilal Ahmad Wani resident of Saderbal Nageen, Javid Ahmad Khan resident of Hawal and Fayaz Ahmad Bhat resident of Court Road Lal Chowk,” police said.

Officers have seized playing cards and stake money of Rs 79000 from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to PS Zakura where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, a case under FIR No. 06/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Zakura and investigation has been initiated, the police statement added.
