New Delhi: On Tuesday, after clashes erupted between farmers and Delhi police during the tractor rally, Police have registered 22 cases so far.
22 FIRs have been registered in connection with the violence during farmers’ tractor rally on Tuesday, police said in a statement, adding, more FIRs are expected to be registered.
More than 300 Police personnel have been injured after being attacked by agitating farmers on January 26, police added.
On January 26, groups of protesting farmers reached Red Fort after breaching police barricades and hoisted the Khalsa flag. During the clashes, one person was reportedly killed at protests in ITO after his tractor overturned.
The police had given farmers camping permission at Delhi’s three borders — Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur — permission to hold rallies on specific routes, after the official Republic Day parade at Rajpath, Indian Express reported.
As per the agreement, farmers were to remain in the adjoining areas of the borders and not venture towards Central Delhi. At Singhu, amid the chaos, the police resorted to lathicharge and tear gas to control the protesters.
The tractors rally will mark the completion of two months of protest against the GoI’s contentious farm laws by farmers camping at the borders of Delhi. Farmer leaders also announced a plan to march on foot to Parliament on February 1, the day the Union Budget will be presented.
