Parts of Kashmir remain shut against ‘hanging of Afzal Guru by New Delhi’

Srinagar: Parts of the Kashmir valley remained shut from North to South against the hanging of Afzal Guru on the same day in the year 2013 in Tihar Jail.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference through posters displayed in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir urged people to observe a complete strike on 9th and 11th (Maqbool Bhat Day) February said that these great sons of soil sacrificed their lives for the future of the Kashmiri generations.

Posters were also put up by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Alliance “paying rich tributes to the martyred Kashmiri leaders said that their sacrifices would not go waste”.

The posters carried pictures of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Muhammad Afzal Guru and read, “we are the custodians of the blood of thousands of Kashmiri martyrs and would not rest until settlement of the Kashmir dispute.”

The posters with pictures of Muhammad Afzal Guru pasted by Youth Freedom Fighters also surfaced in Srinagar and other areas of Kashmir on the eve of his anniversary.

Guru was hanged and buried in Delhi’s Tihar Jail for “hatching a conspiracy of an attack on the Indian parliament”.

In Shopian, a Complete shutdown is being observed in the memorial of Afzal Guru.

Similar reports have also been received from other belts of the district including the Zainapora belt.

From Kulgam, Danishwar Hameed said that Educational Institutes, business establishments, and Oil stations are closed in many parts of the district.

In Islamabad (Anantnag) district, a shutdown is being observed amid a thin movement of traffic on the streets.

In Srinagar too, The Kashmiriyat reported that a complete shutdown is being observed in the downtown areas of the Capital city.

From North Kashmir parts, similar reports of partial shutdown were received.
