Second Wave: JK reports 359 COVID cases in a day, Srinagar declared orange zone

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir reported 359 fresh covid-19 cases, highest in a day for this year, to take the overall tally of the infections to 1,30,587, officials said on Tuesday.

Also, one death due to the virus was reported in the last 24 hours, taking J-K’s fatality count to 1,990—735 in Jammu and 1,255 in Kashmir.

This is for the second time that single-day cases breached 300-mark in Jammu and Kashmir.

Also, it was for the fifteenth consecutive day that more than 100 cases were reported on a single day in J-K.

Amid a spike in COVID cases in Jammu and Kashmir, the government classified Srinagar as an orange zone, while Lakhanpur was declared as containment zone and Jawahar Tunnel area on either side as Red zones

The rest of the districts of the UT have been classified as Green zones.

In an order, chief secretary BVR Subrahmanyam said that in order to contain the spread of Covid-19 district in Jammu and Kashmir have been classified into Red, Orange and Green zones.
