In Pictures: People stay off the streets as Admin imposes COVID Curfew
Srinagar: As COVID cases continue to rise in Jammu and Kashmir, with ten deaths and 2,381 cases reported in the last 24 hours, the valley since yesterday was put under 34 hour long curfew.
The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha took to twitter yesterday and announced the curfew through his social media handle stating that essential and emergency services would be allowed to function smoothly.
In the wake of the restrictions to curb the pandemic, the public remained indoors and the streets wore a deserted look all through the day.
The Sunday flea market vendors too remained off the roads today, and all other shops and business establishments were closed.
Despite no curbs on essential services, the police however disallowed the fruit vendors to set up their carts in the day.
Expressing dismay, Mohammad Yousuf, a 40 year old fruit vendor said, “if we don’t sell these fruits today, these will rot the next day. We were waiting all day but it is only now a few minutes before Iftar that we could make some sale.”
The Police barricaded the Rambagh-Jehangir Chowk flyover to halt the movement of commuters as the city observes a 36 hour long curfew in hope to curb the pandemic.
