45,951 infections reported in 24 hours take India’s COVID tally to 3,03,62,848

New Delhi: With the 45,951 COVID cases being reported in a day, India’s total tally infections surged to 3,03,62,848 with, while the recoveries have crossed 2.94 crores.

According to the Health Ministry of India, the death count increased to 3,98,454 with 817 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Meanwhile, India’s Covaxin, developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research, effectively neutralises both Alpha and Delta variants of coronavirus, the US’ National Institute of Health has said.

The NIH said results of two studies of blood serum from people who had received Covaxin suggest that the vaccine generates antibodies that effectively neutralise the B.1.1.7 (Alpha) and B.1.617 (Delta) variants of SARS-CoV-2, first identified in the UK and India, respectively.

With the addition of 368 new cases of coronavirus, the infection count in Maharashtra’s Thane district has gone up to 5,31,943, reports on Wednesday.

These new cases were reported on Tuesday, he said. The virus also claimed the lives of 18 more people, raising the death count in Thane to 10,679, reports said quoting officials, adding that the COVID mortality rate in the district is two per cent.

Details of recovered and under-treatment patients were not provided by the district administration. In neighbouring Palghar district, the COVID case count has gone up to 1,16,570, while the death count has reached 2,563, another official said.
