India reports 42,766 COVID cases, 1,206 deaths in 24 hours

New Delhi: In the last 24 hours, India reported 42,766 COVID cases, pushing the country’s total tally to 30795716, according to data from the Health Ministry at 9:00 am. This is the fourth day in the last six days that the daily new cases are hovering above the 40,000 mark. On July 6, the country reported 34,703 new COVID cases, the lowest in 111 days.

In the past 24 hours, 1,206 more people lost their lives due to COVID. This is a jump of over 300 lost from yesterday. With this, the country’s total death toll stands at 40,7145.

The recovery rate has further increased to 92.70%. In the last 24 hours, as many as 45, 254 patients were discharged. The active caseload has declined to 4,55,033, constituting merely 1.48% of total infections, according to health ministry.

Daily positivity rate stands at 2.19%, which is less than 3% for 19 consecutive days. On the other hand, the weekly positive rate is at 2.34%.

A total of 19,55,225 samples were tested yesterday for detection of Covid-19. So far, the country has tested over 42.90 crore samples, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

The country is continuing its fight against COVID and has administered over 37.21 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses so far under the nationwide program. Of which, 30,55,802 doses were administered yesterday.
