No words can depict pain, torment Kashmiris witnessed on August 5, 2019: Mehbooba

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said that no words or pictures are enough to depict the pain, torment and upheaval inflicted upon Jammu and Kashmir on this “black day” two years ago.

The PDP chief referred to August 5, 2019, when the Government of India stripped JK of its semi-autonomous status, revoked its statehood, and split the erstwhile state into two Union Territories- JK and Ladakh.

“When unbridled oppression is unleashed and gross injustice heaped there is no other choice but to resist to exist,” Mehbooba added.

Mehbooba also said that this is the day of mourning for JK. “BJP government started oppression, barbarism in 2019,” she said.

“It is unfortunate that BJP is celebrating while Kashmir is mourning. We will resist this. We will force the government to speak to Pakistan to address external dimensions,” the former JK CM added.

Earlier, terming August 5 as a “black day” in the constitutional and democratic history of the country, Mehbooba said that the “draconian” steps taken on the day in 2019 have not only betrayed the trust of the people but also complicated the issue of JK further and taken the political process back by decades.

Mehbooba said that August 5 has become a reminder of the subversion of the democratic and constitutional system of the country and how the trust of the people of JK and all the democrats of the country was betrayed.

“It is a day when the country was lied to and the highest institutions were misused. The day saw solemn promises being broken and the trust of millions of people being betrayed. On this day, the spirit of constitutionalism and democratic ethos were undermined as the people of JK were robbed of their identity and rights,” she said.
