Journalists physically assaulted by armed forces while covering Muharram procession in Srinagar

Srinagar: Armed forces on Tuesday physically assaulted photojournalists in central Kashmir’s Srinagar when they were covering the eighth Muharram procession in the city’s Jahangir Chowk area.

Eyewitnesses told Free Press Kashmir that photojournalists including Sajad Hameed, Waseem Andrabi, and Burhan Bhat were physically assaulted by the armed forces personnel and their equipment was also damaged.

“They hit everyone who came in their way including journalists and mourners,” a journalist from the spot told Free Press Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police Sajad Ahmed Shah said that the police will look into the matter.
