FIR registered for ‘anti-national activities’ after videos show Geelani wrapped in Pakistani flag

Geelani’s family misbehaved with Police, says DGP

After videos showing the body of Syed Ali Shah Geelani wrapped in the Pakistani flag surfaced, police have said that a case has been registered, Delhi based news channel NDTV reported.

The video is taken before Geelani’s body was taken into custody by the Jammy and Kashmir Police who gave him a quiet burial on Thursday morning,

“FIR has been registered into all anti-national activities,” Dilbag Singh, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, was quoted by NDTV as saying.

The police have enforced restrictions to prevent gatherings and had blocked communication for two days.

In one of the videos the family is seen around the body of Syed Ali Shah Geelani wrapped in a Pakistani flag. An armed policeman is also seen inside the room.

The family allege that the body was forcibly taken away by the police and they were not even allowed to participate in the last rites.

The police have refuted and called it ‘baseless allegations’.

Dilbag Singh told NDTV that people at Geelani’s home “misbehaved with the Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar and other policemen and there was a lot of anti-national sloganeering and attempts to instigate people”.

For the last three days, restrictions have been imposed across Kashmir. All shops are closed and public transport is off the roads.

No congregational prayers were allowed in any major mosques on Friday.
