‘Muslims, dalits being targeted in India and attackers are roaming free’

Uttar Pradesh: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi, on Thursday, slammed Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said that Muslims are being targeted and the attackers are ‘roaming free’.

Owaisi is currently in Uttar Pradesh where he is campaigning for the forthcoming Assembly polls in the state.

“Secularism has been purposely weakened with Muslims, Dalits being targetted …Atrocities against Muslims have been done at the behest of BJP while other parties – SP, BSP or Congress played meek spectators…They didn’t speak against CAA, Triple Talaq,” Times Now quoted Owaisi as having said.

Addressing a rally, Owaisi said that people who have been attacking Muslims, know that ‘their prime minister is Narendra Modi’.

He added that Modi’s silence is emboldening those targeting Muslims’. The AIMIM will be contesting on 100 seats in UP and has formed alliances with various parties.

Earlier, Owaisi questioned the GoI’s stance on the situation in Afghanistan and slammed the BJP government saying it was not bothered about minorities in the country.

“They (BJP) is worried about what is happening to women in Afghanistan. Isn’t it happening here?” he had said in a tweet.

Pertinently, Owaisi often calls Ayodhya with its original name Faizabad. Faizabad is the city’s old name that was changed to Ayodhya in 2018 when the Uttar Pradesh cabinet headed by chief minister Yogi Adityanath approved the renaming and the shifting of the administrative headquarters of the district to Ayodhya city.

Faizabad was the first capital of the Nawabs of Awadh and has monuments built by the Nawabs, like the Tomb of Bahu Begum, Gulab Bari, and others.
