College named after slain armed forces personnel in south Kashmir

Shopian: The administration of Jammu and Kashmir has named an educational institution on the name of a local armed forces personnel.

Official sources said that a function of renaming the Government Degree College Shopian in south Kashmir was organized in which top officials from police, civil and army were present.

They said that Government Degree College Shopian will now onwards be called as “Imtiyaz Ahmad Thokar Memorial Model Degree College Shopian”.

Imtiyaz Ahmed Thokar was an Army Para Trooper who was killed in an anti-militancy operation in north Kashmir’s Sopore on 24 February 2015.

Official sources added that the family of the slain was also present on the occasion while unveiling the Board with the new name of the College.

Pertinently, the administration has constituted a committee that will recommend and identify the institutions and other landmarks to be re-named after the names of slain armed forces personnel and other prominent personalities. (KNT)
