Jammu: Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries (JCCI) President Arun Gupta along with other members of the body announced a peaceful Jammu Bandh on September 22 Wednesday.

The shutdown call was given to protest against the opening of Reliance Stores in Jammu and other issues faced by the business community of Jammu.

Besides JCCI president and his office bearers, presidents of various trade bodies were present on the occasion.

The traders also appealed to the people of Jammu to stop selling land to Reliance who will prove ‘counterproductive’ for the local business population.

During the presser, the JCCI Secretary-General Gauraw Gupta said that strike call has been forwarded in wake of multiple problems they have been facing.

“It’s not against opening of Reliance Stores only but Jammu traders are facing a host of issues,” he said, adding, “Jammu traders have badly suffered from the past couple of years”.

He said: “The attitude towards businessmen of Jammu is atrocious. This government is pursuing directionless policies.”

Chamber said that it has raised issues confronting them from time to time with the government but nothing seems to be going right on the ground.

Expressing resentment over the opening of Reliance stores in Jammu, the traders said if this happens then small shopkeepers of Jammu will be ruined and their shops will be closed.

“The directionless government has snatched away what was in the hands of local traders,” they said.

Jammu Chamber also expressed anguish over the closure of Darbar Move practice saying it was aimed at maintaining communal harmony and brotherhood especially among the people of Jammu and Kashmir and this would now have an adverse impact not only upon the traditional bond between the two regions and but also on the business community.

One among the traders said the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi is inaugurating new schemes but they are not beneficial for all especially for traders as there has been a skyrocketing increase in the prices of goods.
